We’re beyond thrilled to have spent the day in Alesund with Gustav Flisnes, mom’s cousin. He took us for a walk around town and gave us a great history lesson. On May 17, Norway’s Constitution Day, people dress in traditional costume – Bunad and come to the parade in town. The parade was at 10am and we docked at noon; they had a Settende Mai parade on the ship for us.
We shot a few videos to hopefully capture the festive feel of the day. May 23rd we reconnect with the family to see the church where our Grandparents were married, travel to the exact location on Fledahl Farm where the postcard picture of our mom in her Bunad was taken and visit. My Grandfather’s name is Flisnes and My Grandmother’s name is Fledahl. We just learned today that the picture of mom was taken on Fledahl farm which makes it even more special.
